Schedule an AppointmentWhy Annual Backflow Testing Matters
Backflow preventers are your property's last line of defense against contaminated water entering the public supply. When these devices fail — even partially — hazardous chemicals, fertilizers, or bacteria can flow backward into the drinking water system.
California law requires that all backflow prevention assemblies be tested annually by a state-certified tester. California Backflow Services handles the full process: testing, documentation, and direct submission of results to your water district.
Device Types We Test
Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ)
The highest level of protection for high-hazard applications including irrigation systems, fire suppression, and commercial boilers. Required by most water districts for commercial properties.
Double Check Valve (DCV)
Used for low-to-moderate hazard applications such as residential irrigation and commercial fire lines where the risk of contamination is lower.
Pressure Vacuum Breaker (PVB)
Commonly installed on residential and light commercial irrigation systems. Must be installed above the highest downstream outlet.
Atmospheric Vacuum Breaker (AVB)
A simple, cost-effective device used on individual hose bibs and low-hazard irrigation zones. Cannot be tested under pressure.
Double Check Detector Assembly (DCDA)
Installed on fire sprinkler systems to detect unauthorized water use while providing backflow protection.
Reduced Pressure Detector Assembly (RPDA)
High-hazard fire line protection with built-in flow detection for fire suppression systems in commercial buildings.
What to Expect During a Test
Schedule & Confirm
We contact you to confirm a convenient time. Most tests take 30–60 minutes with only a brief water interruption.
On-Site Testing
Our certified tester uses calibrated Mid-West gauges to test your device to state standards. We inspect the assembly for wear, corrosion, and proper operation.
Pass or Repair
If your device passes, we document the results. If it fails, we can repair or replace it on the spot in most cases — then retest immediately.
Report Submission
We submit your test results directly to your water district. You receive a copy for your records. No paperwork on your end.
Compliance & Certifications
All California Backflow Services testers are certified by the State of California Cross-Connection Control Specialist program and hold current certifications with the American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA). Our gauges are calibrated annually to ensure accurate results that meet or exceed water district requirements.
